Advertising
Within the advertising department there are two separate areas; Retail Display Advertising and Classified Advertising. Retail display advertising contains national advertising, chain stores, local retail advertising and specialty advertising. Classified is divided between display classified advertising and word ads.
National and chain ads are handled by a National Clerk and booked by advertising agencies who supply the ads camera ready. Local retail advertising is the responsibility of the advertising sales staff. This group sells and designs ads for local stores and businesses as well as providing marketing and scheduling advice.
The advertising department prepares the blueprint or "dummy" for each paper printed for the editorial and composing departments. Inserts of flyers into the newspaper are coordinated and booked through the advertising clerk. Advertising notifies the circulation department of insertion dates and quantities. Flyer inserts are to remain in the Mailroom security and are not to be removed unless directed by the Advertising Director or Reader Sales and Service Manager. All advertising material and flyer inserts are strictly confidential and privileged information and are to be released only within the newspaper on their scheduled publication dates. Employees must never discuss details of an advertisement or flyer insert with anyone not employed by the newspaper or outside the premise of the newspaper.
