Dokis driver pulled over on Hwy. 17, charged with impaired

Police have charged a Dokis man with impaired driving in the Sturgeon Falls area.

Nipissing West OPP said officers stopped a vehicle on April 26, shortly before 9 p.m., on Highway 17 in West Nipissing.

“While speaking with the driver, police observed open liquor in the vehicle and it was determined that the driver had consumed alcohol,” the detachment said. “The driver was arrested for impaired driving, then transported to the OPP detachment for further testing.”

Billy Johanson, 52, from Dokis First Nation, was charged with impaired operation and having open liquor.

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in North Bay on June 6.

The driver was also issued a 90-day licence suspension and his vehicle was impounded for seven days.
