“Police located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop,” the OPP said in a release. “Upon speaking with the driver, the driver fled from police and continued down the highway.”

A second attempt to stop the vehicle was successful, the OPP said, but the driver then took off running.

A search for the driver was carried out with assistance from the North East Region Canine Unit. The man was ultimately located, arrested and transported to the OPP detachment.

Matthew Luttrell-Vaillancourt, 20, has been charged with dangerous operation, flight from a peace officer, impaired operation over 80 mgs, failure to stop for police, and being a novice driver with a blood-alcohol content above zero.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola on June 10, 2024.

Luttrell-Vaillancourt was also issued a 90-day licence suspension and his vehicle was impounded for seven days.
